As promised, I’ve put together a Sample Proposal for your research project. Hopefully this will give you a clearer idea of what I’m looking for.

As you can see, it’s quite possible to do this on one page. The main elements are the Statement of the Problem (what questions are being debated?), the Thesis Statement (what is your position on the problem?), and a Preliminary Outline (what areas will you need to cover to support your argument?).

Here are the materials I’ve given in class related to the research project. I’ve separated the one big handout I gave out into several pieces. All of these files are PDFs.

If you do not have the handout “Examining Primary Sources,” here it is.

The main idea here, remember, is to try to ascertain the motive for writing the document and use that to look at how it affects the author’s description of events and environments.

[Core 2.2] eBook Version of Reader

You can access the primary sources reader as an online eBook.

  • To do this you need a Student Access Code.
    • If you purchased the book new, it should have come packaged with one.
    • Otherwise, you can buy a Student Access Code standalone for $21.90. These are supposed to be available either at the bookstore or from the website below.
  • You will also need the school ZIP code (11210) and a valid email address.

To register, go to http://www.pearsoncustom.com/ny/bc_history_smw/ and click on Register. Create a new Pearson Education account and enter the Student Access Code when it asks you.

Once you’ve jumped through hoops of the registration process, you should be able to go back to the same URL and log in using the account you just created.

If anyone tries this and it works, please let me know! I’m curious to see if this is a useful alternate means of accessing the book.
